Building the Kisköre Barrage on river Tisza created a huge artificial lake, which has now become a habitable place for flora, fauna and enjoyable one for humans: a lively, but not overcrowded centre of recreation, close to one of Hungary’s main motorways.
No wonder the lake became an instant favourite – and very soon construction of hotels, camping sites and beaches began. Now you’ll find six beaches available for the public for free and you may engage with several different sports from swimming to boating.
The 50-year-old lake welcomes all lovers of nature. You may ride along bike paths, set sail from harbours, or simply take long walks through or, rather besides, reeds into the sunset.
Feel like celebrating the lake’s anniversary?
Let us give you a hint where to go. 10 years ago, an Eco centre was opened in Poroszló to present the natural values and wildlife of Lake Tisza and the Tisza Valley in an interactive way, while also hosting exhibitions, events and a viewing platform. Its harbour is used for water tours and small boat trips.
You may also want to see the 735,000-litre aquarium system that’s the largest freshwater aquarium in Europe. Kids will love the leisure park with animal exhibitions and playgrounds whilst the neighbouring buildings present how local people lived in the 19th century.
